Yes, you read correctly. Now I want the "
almighty" Google to make a car. Please understand me - I don't think they will actually do it ( at least anytime soon) but you definitely have to hear me out and hey...you may even agree.
#1 - It would have apps.
Everytime I get in a car, no matter how nice it is, I am always thinking what technology could be added inside and it doesn't help that I love cars . No car manufacturer in my mind could develop the technology that should go into cars and gladly they don't, so wouldn't it be great for the
Android operating system to be installed in the car and app developers load you up with apps. Imagine the possibilities an app to tell you how much you just spent at the pump, keep track of your mileage and speed remotely , and even one to start your car with all of your temperature and radio settings based on the time of year.
#2 - Because the car would be free!? Ok, only in my dreams would the car be free, but at least it would be cheap and ad supported. I promise if the car looked great and had an ad that maybe played through the speaker sometimes or on a navigation screen based on where I was, I really wouldn't mind.
#3 - Google Maps, in your car, duh?
Well of course! We already download so many apps that can help us move around the city, but having navigation in your car that can pinpoint where you are, locate nearby restaurants, etc. would be great. Yes, cars already have this, but the navs in cars get old and outdated quickly and quite frankly most don't look that user friendly.
#4 - Have you ever heard of Google Voice?
OMG...
Google Voice would be outstanding all the free calls I want in my car, my voicemails playing through the speakers, and reading and drafting a text message safely from behind the wheel by voice. YEA!
#5 - They already have the talent. Google pays out millions a year to the most talented engineers around. Just a few more hires for Google and the team will be complete. See it's that easy Google ;)
#6 - Apple may make one to compete.
Apple's attention to design detail and OS stability wrapped nicely into a car would just be inspirational. Of course there would be some sweet iPhone and iPod intergration and there is already 100,000 apps to support you. What more do you need?
#7 - Because it wouldn't have Microsoft Sync.
When I purchased my car, I went out with the intention of supporting Ford this time around - I like they didn't take money from the government, didn't file for bankruptcy leaving everyone else hanging, and so I purchased a Milan. I actually like the car, it's missing the interior and exterior refinement that a lot of imports have and is not for the car enthusiast, but Microsoft Sync is REALLY not that great! It takes forever to sync with the iPhone, the voice recognition is subpar (even though I am not convinced that many speech recognition software is perfect) , and when the car shuts off most time the song doesn't start right up . Yea, I'm anti-Microsoft Sync.
#8 - Google can afford it.
They have the money to take this HUGE and EXPENSIVE risk. I didn't say it was wise and I don't think their investors would like my suggestions too much, but they have it!
#9 - Google Music!

I use
Pandora all the time in the car for my
Chromeo,
Gnarls Barkley, and
Vampire Weekend listening pleasure, but with the announcement of Google Music, I think I would actually just take a ride driving nowhere just to enjoy my music on the road (like I don't already, so what... it get's my creative juices going -
Cram and many Cram updates have been thought of in the car, sorry Earth)
