Who has the time in this crazy world to do anything. You are already using one of the finest computers right now (yes I'm referring to your Mac) and now I'm going to show you ways to use it more efficiently , this is just to incredible.

Enjoy the brief tips below and you are going to wonder how you ever managed without them. Learn how to download video from the web (yes, even your favorite cat video from YouTube), color code your friends email in blue (or any color for that matter), and how to become a mathematician on the Mac at any time.

Download anything from the web, including video!

You can get a lot from the Internet these days, especially using Safari. The best thing is, you don't need any app for this trick (and now for the collective "Whew"). To download almost anything from the Internet using Safari, including your beloved YouTube video:

  1. Start the video in "Safari"

  2. Press and hold the shortcut keys:  " ⌘+Opt-A" to bring up the activity window.

  3. Look for the file size that would most likely match the file type you are downloading ( for instance, video would most likely be in MB)

  4. Double click on the video (even if still loading in Safari)

  5. Open "Finder" .

  6. Append ".flv" to the end of the file name, most likely named "Get Video" and that video is yours for the watching.


If you insist on using an app... TubeTv (FREE)

Do your math on instantly.

You find yourself typing within some random document , maybe something to your boss about your expenses or your partner about their expenses, regardless what you are writing about you can be a calculate at will with your Mac's help.

Let's take the boss example for instance:

"Hello Joe Boss, for lunch this week I have spent: 4.80+6.90+3.69 on your food. Please pay me back or else!" (well maybe not or else). Your first thought would be to open your calculator app...tsk tsk. It would be much quicker to simply :

  1. Highlight your formula

  2. Press "⌘+Shift+8" and watch the magic happen, it's pure genius!


Don't like that calculation shortcut try these...

Are you a Spotlight fan? Aren't we all you say...then calculate using Spotlight. Simply type in your formula and your Mac will do the calculation on the fly for you.

How about if you just want to open the calculator app to perform another calculation after you are done, press Enter and this will open the calculator from where you are.

Color Coding Emails in Mail

Your best friends, your mom, your boss, and your dog (hmmm...) email you all the time, wouldn't it be great to know who it is from just by doing a quick glance over the screen, by say, seeing a particular color. A great rule in Mail that you can set up under the actions panel is to color code emails from specific people.

To setup this option :

  1. Open "Mail"

  2. Click on "Preferences" or "," as  a shortcut

  3. Go to "Actions"

  4. Click on "Set Color of Message" under actions.
