10 Things You Must Do with your New BlackBerry - Part 2

So...on to part two shall we. Just in case you missed part one... 10 Things you Must Do with your New BlackBerry - Part 1

#7 - Download some apps

Well of course we would say this, we make lots of neat apps for your BlackBerry . No really besides that , apps honestly make the device more useful. There are tons of apps for the BlackBerry, that might literally fit your every need. Here at SimpleLeap, besides our own apps, we have our favorites. I have listed below a few app suggestions and places where you can find loads of third-party BlackBerry applications in one place.

If you have never installed third party applications for your BlackBerry, please read the How-To on Downloading Third Party BlackBerry Apps. Also remember if there is a trial available (and there almost  always is, USE IT)

Personal Productivity BlackBerry Apps:

  • Viigo - RSS/Blog Feed (Patrick's favorite -  he likes his news on the go, but he warns to not pull so much it can make the BlackBerry slow)

  • Appetite - Grocery list and recipe manager

  • Pandora - Radio for your BlackBerry

  • BlackPing - Post your status to Ping.fm which post your status to each your social network

Student BlackBerry Apps:

  • Student Docket - Student assignment/schedule planner

  • Cram - Study and flashcard tool-in-one

  • MSDict- Dictionary (kinda self explanatory)

Business BlackBerry Apps:

  • eOffice - Document manager for your BlackBerry

  • TalkLater - Call Reminder Utility

  • Call Client - Phone call manager, lets you make phone calls back to back and mark notes for each call (for hardcore roadies, salesmen, and phone addicts)

Places to Download Third-Party Apps:

Always try to REMEMBER to download from the developer's site if you can, this is typically best for everyone.

  • Mobihand - large selection, organized

  • GetJar - huge selection, a little to huge...this should keep you busy for awhile

  • Handango - it's a source, nothing to scream about

  • Handmark - limited selection

  • ClickApps - very limited selection

  • CNET - alot of the top apps (just because it's the top app, means nothing)

  • BlackBerry App World - new, slow, decent selection

  • BerryStore - better to for free apps (SOMETIMES you get what you pay for, NOT ALL THE TIME)

#6 - Rearrange your home screen icons

This is a great idea after you have installed all of those great apps, the icons will be scattered everywhere on your home screen and nobody wants a cluttered screen. We did purchase the BlackBerry to help us become organized, not because of that nice looking screen or cool app right ;)

So here is how to rearrange your home screen icons:

  1. From your BlackBerry home screen (the full screen, not the short list of five icons on the side) hover over the icon you wish to relocate

  2. Press the BlackBerry menu button

  3. Select Move from the list

  4. Use your BlackBerry trackball to move the icon where you would like it be

  5. Press the BlackBerry trackball in to place it there.

#5 - Personalize your BlackBerry

Ok. You now have cool apps, in the place you want them... how about that boring, so unlike you BlackBerry background or how about those ringtones.

Easy problem to solve. Download some themes and ringtones silly. They are easy to find and usually in the same place as the third-party apps (reference the list above).

I have listed the theme we have on BlackBerries and some other sources to find more.

So long...until next time...Part 3 (Coming to you on Monday!)
