Review: Things To-Do List
- $9.99 price tag
- Things is simple in both design and function
- 4/5 star rating
- Get Things: Things on The AppStore
I've seen Things around the AppStore many times and finally decided to give it a try and I wasn't disappointed. Things for iPhone has everything you need for a basic to do list on the iPhone today including a desktop pairing, simplicity, and the functionality you would expect.
What is Things?
Things is simply a to-do list/task manager for the iPhone . There is no other way to describe it, this is Thing's one function and it does it well.

Today's FREE App: Balcassa
A unique and challenging cross between a slider puzzle and a Rubik's Cube, Balcassa includes a variety of games offering hours of increasingly challenging game-play. The object of each of the games is to rotate a number of cubes into a sequence, a pattern or orientation by moving them around the screen. In some games it may be enough to get each cube into position with the correct side showing, while in other games rotation of the cubes must also be considered. The idea is simple, the solution is not!

Blimp: the flying adventures
The merchant planet Solbot of the Wondda galaxy was not always a merchant planet and a member of the Allied Planets organization. Not long ago it waged a bitter war with the malevolent aliens form the planet Tarra, who planned to seize this strategic outpost. As an allied pilot I, too, joined the fight only to come out of it as a captain Zed Pelin, a pilot of the merchant company on a new and independent planet. That could be the end of my story, but rather it's just a beginning…

Google to Acquire AdMob
Apple at 100,000 apps, who are the losers? - Part 2
#1 - RIM - The Makers of the BlackBerry
Well this a sad one, because the I actually thought at one time that the BlackBerry was a very nice smartphone and then the iPhone came out. It was reported yesterday that the iPhone has achieved 30% of the market share versus BlackBerry's 40% market share. Though the iPhone still has a smaller market share, Apple has gained this market share in much less time and reports released every quarter confirm that the iPhone continues to gain huge market share.
#2 - The Windows Marketplace/Windows Mobile
Windows Mobile phones have been out for ages (six years to be exact) and the general consumer probably couldn't even tell you that Microsoft had a phone. Well, that's not going to get any better for Windows with BlackBerry and Palm competing to keep their market and Microsoft's head honcho Balmer has confirmed in many times that they will not be releasing a new Windows mobile phone anytime soon, so we will wait and see how far down the Windows Mobile market share will drop until it exists no more.
#3 - The Developers
For some developers their app would be politely considered a big commercial miss. At the launch of the AppStore, it was reportedly much easier to get in the top 100 list, as there were only so many apps, now not even 11,000 sales a day canget you in the top 100. Some app sales were so unflattering that a few developers just gave up. There are other app developers that feel they put too little or too much in their app and are starting over. So it's not great news to developers that there are even more competitors in the store. Trying to get in the top 100 list of the AppStore only means that your marketing and app are pure genius - and most likely featured somehow by Apple, whether it's through their highly effective television campaigns, group app lists, or Staff Pick.
#4 - The iPhone Users
I know I listed the iPhone users twice, but it was for good reason. Besides wonderful websites like The iPhone Website, it will nearly be impossible to find apps as more apps are accepted into the store, especially within the AppStore itself. Once apps get in the top 25 to 100 apps in their category that's all you are going to see for a while and it just turns into a list of apps you've seen before, have, hate, or just don't want.
It's been rumored that Apple will release a "Premium AppStore" featuring apps from developers with higher priced apps like EA Games, but before you know it that will be full as well, so only time can tell.
#5 - The "Dumb Phone"
Even my technically challenged mother asks how she can get "neat things" on her phone like the things on the iPhone , I can only laugh and know that the dumb phones are in deep trouble. What used to be sufficient enough functionality for a phone (a phone call and voicemail, lol) just is no more. Of course, as all things, today's smartphone will soon be tommorrow's dumb phone but in these most recent years the technology in phones has taken a big leap.

Apple Attacks Back in Commercial
I can't confirm if this is from Apple themselves, but it would be quite interesting if it is. This is supposedly Apple's response to the infamous copycat "iDont" Droid commercials that have been attacking the iPhone in an 'Apple-esque' commercial style.
What do you think , an appropriate response or just ehh?

9 Reasons Google Should Make a Car
#1 - It would have apps.
Everytime I get in a car, no matter how nice it is, I am always thinking what technology could be added inside and it doesn't help that I love cars . No car manufacturer in my mind could develop the technology that should go into cars and gladly they don't, so wouldn't it be great for the Android operating system to be installed in the car and app developers load you up with apps. Imagine the possibilities an app to tell you how much you just spent at the pump, keep track of your mileage and speed remotely , and even one to start your car with all of your temperature and radio settings based on the time of year.
#2 - Because the car would be free!?
Ok, only in my dreams would the car be free, but at least it would be cheap and ad supported. I promise if the car looked great and had an ad that maybe played through the speaker sometimes or on a navigation screen based on where I was, I really wouldn't mind.
#3 - Google Maps, in your car, duh?
Well of course! We already download so many apps that can help us move around the city, but having navigation in your car that can pinpoint where you are, locate nearby restaurants, etc. would be great. Yes, cars already have this, but the navs in cars get old and outdated quickly and quite frankly most don't look that user friendly.
#4 - Have you ever heard of Google Voice?
OMG...Google Voice would be outstanding all the free calls I want in my car, my voicemails playing through the speakers, and reading and drafting a text message safely from behind the wheel by voice. YEA!
#5 - They already have the talent.
Google pays out millions a year to the most talented engineers around. Just a few more hires for Google and the team will be complete. See it's that easy Google ;)
#6 - Apple may make one to compete.
Apple's attention to design detail and OS stability wrapped nicely into a car would just be inspirational. Of course there would be some sweet iPhone and iPod intergration and there is already 100,000 apps to support you. What more do you need?
#7 - Because it wouldn't have Microsoft Sync.
When I purchased my car, I went out with the intention of supporting Ford this time around - I like they didn't take money from the government, didn't file for bankruptcy leaving everyone else hanging, and so I purchased a Milan. I actually like the car, it's missing the interior and exterior refinement that a lot of imports have and is not for the car enthusiast, but Microsoft Sync is REALLY not that great! It takes forever to sync with the iPhone, the voice recognition is subpar (even though I am not convinced that many speech recognition software is perfect) , and when the car shuts off most time the song doesn't start right up . Yea, I'm anti-Microsoft Sync.
#8 - Google can afford it.
They have the money to take this HUGE and EXPENSIVE risk. I didn't say it was wise and I don't think their investors would like my suggestions too much, but they have it!
#9 - Google Music!

I use Pandora all the time in the car for my Chromeo, Gnarls Barkley, and Vampire Weekend listening pleasure, but with the announcement of Google Music, I think I would actually just take a ride driving nowhere just to enjoy my music on the road (like I don't already, so what... it get's my creative juices going - Cram and many Cram updates have been thought of in the car, sorry Earth)

Canadian iPhone Users Rejoice! Telus Coming Soon.
Do you live in Canada and have been waiting for the Rogers Wireless exclusivity deal to end, well your wish has come true. TELUS today announced that it will bring the iPhone 3GS to Canada on Thursday, November 5, with a range of 3G data plans for iPhone customers. Now this doesn't mean that you can't get your iPhone from Rogers, it just means you can your iPhone from more than one provider now.
While the Telus network has been CDMA-only, the carrier is not selling a modified phone. Rather, the company is launching its iPhone-compatible HSPA network, which it's marketing to consumers as 3G+.
There is a little bad news though (as usual with telecom companies), the plans aren't cheap and really match the price that was expected for release from Bell, who is also rumored to be offering iPhone 3GS phone and plans soon in Canada. For those of you that live in the U.S. don't hold your breath, the AT&T exclusivity contract is much longer and is expected to end late 2010.
TELUS offers the iPhone 3GS and 3G at the following hardware prices:
| Apple iPhone | 3 year term | Regular price |
| 8GB 3G | $99.99 | $599.99 |
| 16GB 3GS Black or White | $199.99 | $699.99 |
| 32GB 3GS Black or White | $299.99 | $799.99 |

How-To: Remove Duplicate Songs from iTunes

You've downloaded all these songs and you have finally found the time to open iTunes and move it over to your iPhone or iPod Touch, but you notice something - a lot of your songs are duplicates. The bigger problem is, you have over 8,000 wonderful songs in your library and there is no way you are going to dedicate your precious Saturday to manually deleting duplicates in your iTunes library. The wonderful thing is that you don't have to....follow me and I have a few quick solutions for you to use to delete those dupes.
First...how to do this using iTunes (these directions are based on iTunes 9, if you don't have it, download it here):
- Open iTunes and make sure you have navigated into your iTunes Music Library.
- From the menu, hold your "Options" button (on Windows press "Shift") and click on "File".
Now select "Show Exact Duplicates". (my screenshot does not show it, because you can not press option and take a screenshot without it performing another function) - Look through your list and see what is a duplicate ( I would suggest actually listening to a few seconds to see if this is true, as iTunes recognizes Live and Album versions as dupes).
- Select the songs you would like to delete and delete them.
Press "Delete" and you will be prompted asking if you are sure you want to delete.-
When you delete you will be prompted by iTunes to either "Keep Files" or "Move to Trash". Select "Move to Trash"
Now, I think this method is simply not that efficient, nor reliable. You can make a mistake and think something is a duplicate when it's really not and it only saves you so much time versus going through your entire list and deleting that way. So I have a few other solutions, and of course they are those lovely applications that help do the work.
App Solutions for Macs:
- iDupe ($8) - This has widely been confirmed around the net , as the solid solution for removing duplicate songs in iTunes on your Mac.
- Dupin ($15) - Everyone else that doesn't use iDupe, use's Doug's AppleScript for iTunes, it's free and it works.
- DupeGuru ME ($25) - Works on Mac and PC
- TidyUp ($30) - Does more than iTunes clean up
App Solutions for Windows:
- Dupe Eliminator ($35) - Rated well by CNET, I've personally never tried it.
- Duplicate Finder ($24)
- DupeGuru ME ($25) - Works on Mac and PC
I would say give them all a TRY, use the trials that the developers offer and see which app works best for you. If you guys have used any other solutions, share them, we all need to know what works!

Orignal From: How to Control Mosquitoes
Review: Parablox - The Addictive Puzzle Brick-Breaker Hybrid
Quick Points:
- .99 Price Tag is a Steal
- Addictive Puzzle, Brick-Breaker Game Hybrid
- Wonderful looking
- 4/5 star rating
When I stumbled across this game on the net, the nice looking screenshots caught my eye first, when I actually downloaded and played the game...oh what a treat!
What is Parablox?
Parablox is actually not what it appears it be at first, another brick breaker game, although similar. It's actually a puzzle and brick breaker game hybrid (in my opinion). The principle of the game is get rid of all the blocks before your life is up, that's it! Sounds easy right, well not quite.

You can only break the bricks that match the color of your ball. Some of the blocks can be moved by your ball (hindering or helping you achieve your goal) and even some blocks within the round change the color of the ball, therefore eliminating some blocks you can get rid of. Now you are getting Parablox's complexity, lol !
At first I found it challenging to grasp how to actually correctly move the ball in Parablox, but after my momentary brain fart, I got it. You have the option to turn on the accelerometer , but I didn't prefer this way, again that is total preference.
The Value:
For .99 I think the game is a steal. You get 25 levels of joy and challenge. Find a round a little to challenging at the time you can move on to the next. The options that you want are there and it looks great. What more do you guys want for a buck!
My Wish List:
My wish list features are just that. This is not what the game is missing, it's just what I would like to see in the future updates of Parablox.
- Multi-player mode - I totally wanted to compete with my friend and what better way to do this, than with multi-player mode.
- Timed Play - I am always competitive, so beating my own previous time or a record time wouldn't be bad at all.
- FaceBook Integrated Challenge and Scoreboard - Besides the great marketing this would be for Bartelme Designs, how fun would it be to see a friend on your Facebook friend list, duel, and plaster your winning score all over for all of your other friends to see...Heck YA!
- Optional Soundtracks - I kind of see why this wasn't in here, sometimes during play I wanted the track, other times I was thinking a little too much about my strategy to want it or to even care, lol.
- Larger help button - I'm slow and I totally missed the help on the main screen. This will most helpful for the dumb and blind (like me), lol
Overall:
Parablox is a beautiful game that would be entertaining and challenging to the casual dental office gamer to the "my thumbs are sore" iPhone gaming nerd. It's well worth it as it is thought out, not too complex, and beautiful. I like this puzzle and brick-breaker hybrid and Parablox is deserving of the 4/5 stars !

So it would be best to save your own contact information in your iPhone.
- Now all you have to do is visit one of your favorite websites in Safari (like TheiPhoneWebsite.com :) and see how well it works.
That's it guys. Again, not that hard to do. So go save some time and enjoy your AutoFill.

How-To: Change Default Search Engine on iPhone and iPod Touch
Even though Google has majority of the search engine market share out there, believe it or not, everyone doesn't use Google to search. Yes, hold your gasps but this is true. In this how to help article, I will detail the way you can change your default search engine from Google to Yahoo within Safari on your iPhone or iPod Touch.
So let us begin...
From your iPhone or iPod Touch home screen, tap on the "Settings" icon.
Scroll down the list and tap on "Safari" to modify these settings.
Once you are in the Safari option, scroll and tap on the "Search Engine" option.
Now, once selected, you have the ability to choose between Google and Yahoo.- Select the search engine you would like to set as your default search engine.
That is it, it really is that simple! Now all you have to do is open Safari and you will notice that the quick search is now Yahoo instead of Google. For those of you that are the 'true, die-hard' Google fans, don't worry, you can just go through the steps for practice, lol.
